The default bonus
New giffgaff users get £5 of bonus credit by default after activating with a £10 top-up: top up £10, get £5, for £15 of credit in total.
To sum up, the conditions for the £5 bonus are:
- You must be a new giffgaff user: existing users who have already activated a giffgaff number do not qualify. How to tell whether you are a new user: anyone who has never activated a giffgaff number is a new user, even if the account was registered some time ago.
- Only giffgaff SIMs requested through an invitation link get the £5 bonus: requesting directly on the website gives no bonus, and neither does requesting an eSIM directly in the official app.
- All my SIMs come with the £5 bonus: they were all requested through an invitation link. If you get a physical giffgaff SIM or eSIM from me, you do not need to use an invitation link again when registering your giffgaff account. Just go to giffgaff.com, register a new account, click activate your sim and enter the 6-character activation code on the giffgaff card. That counts as using my invitation, so you get the £5 bonus.

In the months when the £10-for-£10 offer runs, I request a lot of new SIMs in batches and give out only the first 15 of each batch, that is, I invite only the first 15 people per batch, to do my best to make sure everyone in the group gets the £10 bonus.
